About the Role
We are looking for a PLC Engineer to support PLC/HMI, control panel, instrumentation, and automation projects. The role involves control system design, PLC programming, panel documentation, field device integration, testing, commissioning support, and project coordination.
The successful candidate should have hands-on experience with PLC/HMI systems, control panel projects, loop testing, and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop control philosophy, I/O lists, and cause-and-effect documentation.
- Produce and review panel general arrangement drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and termination drawings using AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar tools.
- Select suitable hardware, including PLC/RTU, I/O modules, HMI, power supply units, relays, signal isolators, surge protection devices, UPS, fans, and filters.
- Program PLCs using LD, FBD, or ST, and implement interlocks, sequences, and alarms.
- Integrate field devices and drives, including analog 4–20 mA signals, DI/DO, pulse signals, VFDs, and soft starters.
- Implement and diagnose communication protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, and/or EtherNet/IP, where required.
- Prepare FAT procedures and conduct I/O simulation, fail-safe tests, and documentation for client acceptance.
- Plan SAT activities, loop checks, punch-list closure, and cutover or rollback plans for live plant environments.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation signals, network drops, and control sequences.
- Optimise PLC scan performance and alarm configurations.
- Maintain as-built drawings, manuals, spare parts lists, and training materials.
- Prepare proper handover documentation for project completion.
- Track project schedule, materials, and costs.
- Coordinate with procurement teams, vendors, civil/MEP teams, and other project stakeholders.
- Report project progress to the Project Manager.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Control & Instrumentation, or a related discipline.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in PLC/HMI and control panel projects.
- Experience in water, utilities, or process automation projects will be advantageous.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major PLC/HMI platform, such as:Schneider M580/SCADAPack with EcoStruxure or Control Expert; orAllen-Bradley Studio 5000 with PanelView or FactoryTalk.
- Able to read and interpret P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and wiring schematics.
- Confident in loop testing and panel quality checks.
- Working knowledge of Modbus, DNP3, analog signal calibration, and basic networking, including VLAN and IP addressing.
- Strong documentation discipline and coordination skills.
- Able to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal project teams.
