Responsibilities

• We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to support and

enhance our API and microservices ecosystem in a cloud-native AWS

environment. This role focuses on BAU (Business-As-Usual) support,

ensuring system stability, performance, and continuous improvement of

backend services.

• Provide BAU support for Java-based microservices and APIs, ensuring

high availability and reliability

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices using Java (17+)

and Spring Boot (3.x)

• Manage and support cloud infrastructure on AWS (ECS, EC2, RDS)

• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues using tools like

Grafana and CloudWatch

• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, AWS

CodeCommit, and CodePipeline

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve production issues and

deploy enhancements

• Support integration with identity and access management systems (Okta)

• Work with MuleSoft for API integrations and middleware support

• Ensure adherence to best practices in coding, security, and performance

optimization

• Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous

improvement initiatives

Requirements • 8+ years of experience in Java backend development

• Strong expertise in Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x

• Proven experience in building and supporting microservices and

REST/GraphQL APIs

• Hands-on experience with AWS services: ECS, EC2, RDS

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, AWS CodeCommit, and

CodePipeline

• Strong knowledge of SQL, Oracle and relational databases

• Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Grafana and AWS

CloudWatch

• 3+ years of experience with Okta for authentication/authorization

• Investigate production issues, respond based on production defect severity SLAs

• Manage and respond to users on timely manner.

• Log incident ticket for production issues and user queries

• Follow up on defect and incident closure and meet incident closure KPI

• Make sure system availability as per respective agreed SLA

• Ensure daily start of day(SOD) and end of day(EOD) execution for supported applications complete successfully

• Provide support for annual Disaster Recovery (DR) exercise for supported applications

• Provide support to System Engineers on server level patches / upgrade as and when applicable

• Knowledge with 3rd party monitoring tools like Control-M, Geneos, Splunk, SQL Monitor

• Knowledge with Market Data, and Geneos monitoring setup and dashboard configuration

• Ensure application incident & task documentation is properly updated for each production release

Education:

• Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science or related field.

Essential:

• Prior hand-on production support experience of OPEN Systems/AS4000

• Good support knowledge in either one of the retail or wholesale payment or customer information systems

• Willing to work in onsite shift-support model [24*7]

• Hands-on experience in writing AS400 and SQL queries and parsing logs for issue investigation

• Hands-on experience in writing shell scripts (UNIX) and optimize incidents investigation

• Strong written, oral communication skills and able to manage user

• Ability to easily adopt to any technology / environment

• 2 or more years’ production support experience in bank or financial vendors across multiple technologies / platform

Brief Job Description

Responsibilities:
• Monitor Production Systems: Continuously monitor the health and performance of production applications using monitoring tools and dashboards.
• Incident Management: Respond to and resolve application incidents, ensuring minimal impact on business operations. Document incidents and their resolutions.
• Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
• Collaboration: Work closely with development, QA, and operations teams to identify and resolve application issues.
• Performance Tuning: Analyze application performance and implement tuning measures to optimize system performance.
• Deployment Support: Assist in the deployment of new releases and patches, ensuring minimal disruption to production services.
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of application support procedures, incident resolutions, and system configurations.
• User Support: Provide support to end-users and stakeholders, addressing their queries and issues related to production applications.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance the efficiency and reliability of application support

Education:

• Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• At least 10 years’ relevant experience preferably in a Finance Institution.

Essential:

• You must develop solid understanding of PB system flow and dependencies to effectively support batch scheduling, execution and monitoring.
• You are expected to produce clear and comprehensive documentation and  ensure proper knowledge transfer to the production support team following project cutover.
• You are expected to collaborate closely with developers, system analysts and architects to design and implement technical solutions that are fit for purpose for the PB system, while meeting all security, regulatory, and architectural standards.
• You are expected to work on shift schedules, including overnight shifts to support EOD batch execution for PB projects.
• You are expected to strictly adhere to UOB standards, policies, and procedures in all deliverables and activities, with no deviations.
