The Centre for International Law (CIL) was established in 2009 as a university-level research institute at National University of Singapore (NUS). CIL invites applications for a one-year Research Associate position. Centre for Lifelong Learning and Individualised Cognition CLIC is a research collaboration between the University of Cambridge and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and hosted by the Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore (CARES) that aims to develop neuroscience-based interventions for lifelong flexible learning. Launched in October 2020 and funded by the National Research Foundation Singapore, CLIC brings together a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, neuroscientists, linguists and educators who conduct innovative research in the science of learning.

The world of today is constantly evolving to keep pace with advances in technology and globalisation, requiring individuals to adapt and develop new skills to ensure resilience through a culture of lifelong flexible learning. Project Overview

The DiSTAP programme addresses deep problems in food production in Singapore and the world by developing a suite of impactful and novel analytical, genetic and biosynthetic technologies. DiSTAP is one of the five Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs) of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART).  The research engineer will join an interdisciplinary team of chemists, engineers and plant biologists in the development, modification and characterization of functional conjugated polymers with unique optical properties that could potentially be used for cell imaging. These novel tools enables optimal crop production and rapid development of plants suitable for high-density farming and revolutionalizes urban farming strategies.

Responsibilities

• Support the DiSTAP nanosensor team in the development and validation of novel single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)-based sensors, with a primary focus on Covalent Organic Framework microneedles (COF-MNs) and nanosensors for nutrient sensing.

Work you’ll do

GL Operations/Management/Statutory Reporting

• Oversee financial accounting, reporting, general ledger, fixed assets, audit, and tax to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain the general ledger, manage fixed assets and leases, coordinate month-end closing activities, liaise with the shared service team, and ensure timely submission of management reports in compliance with Southeast Asia Finance (“SEA Finance”) submission timelines.
• Prepare month-end closing reports and schedules promptly.
• Perform analytical reviews of profit & loss accounts, balance sheets, and trend analysis.
• Ensure timely collection, review, and reporting of all financial data for the month, including balance sheets, income statements, meeting slides, and other financial documents.
• Maintain detailed records of all company-owned assets, including equipment, vehicles, and property, and manage lease agreements and track asset depreciation.
• Address queries from business units (“BU”) and ensure timely resolution.
• Compile financial information for reporting, analysis, tax, and audit purposes.
• Raise ServiceNow requests to the Shared Service Team ("GFS") for journal postings.
• Review, monitor, and manage the asset lifecycle, including tagging non-IT equipment.
• Ensure accounting and tax compliance with local, statutory, and government requirements.
• Identify and drive continuous improvement of finance processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, and implement changes to streamline operations and reduce costs.
• Perform ad hoc duties/projects as needed, including supporting new business initiatives and updating finance policies.

Requirements

• A recognized Diploma/Degree in Finance/Accounting or professional qualifications such as ACCA or CPA Australia
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience in Finance.
• Experience using computerised accounting packages such as SAP is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, particularly MS Excel, with a good understanding of basic concepts and the ability to apply them in day-to-day use.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to take on ad hoc tasks or projects as assigned.

Job Description

The successful candidate will work with Prof CHEN Wei on  Interface Engineering for low-dimensional materials based device applications under a project on NRF Investigatorship project:  Interface Engineered Ferroelectric 2D Materials for Artificial Synapses and Neuromorphic Computing”.

The main responsibilities of the position include One postdoc position is available at the Surface and Interface Lab (Prof. CHEN WEI’s group), National University of Singapore. The project focuses on the interface engineering for 2D materials based device and related electrical and optoelectrical characterization for memory and neuromorphic computing application.

The selected candidate will work together with a team comprising experts in MBE growth and STM characterization, device fabrication and related electrical and optoelectrical characterization, and surface reaction mechanism study using home-made interface characterization tools. 

Qualifications

Qualifications / Discipline: PhD in Physics/ Chemistry/ Materials in a research intensive and renowned University or Research Institute. 

Skills: Excellent English writing and communication skill, team management skill, expert in surface and interface science, surface science techniques of low-temperature scanning tunnelling microscopy, q-plus AFM, MBE growth of 2D materials, 2D materials interface engineering, and multi-physics understanding at the integrated device level.

Experience: Extensive research experience and publish at least 3 - 5 first-authored papers on Tier I journals and excellent lab safety management skills and experience.

Job Scope:

• Support the curatorial team’s research on Singapore’s post-independence history for special galleries. This includes:
• Research on existing and new artefacts and documents
• Background research and preparation for the conduct of oral history interviews and the management of the video interviews and production

• Conduct archival research on relevant images and audio-visual material

• Seek permissions and copyright clearances for material curated for use in exhibitions, including for multimedia, publications as well as education and public programmes

• Manage content and asset delivery for exhibition design, fabrication and translations

• Provide administrative and operational support for the abovementioned curatorial projects
  

Requirements:

• Recognised degree/diploma in History or the Humanities or other disciplines relevant to Singapore’s post-independence history and nation building policies. Diploma holders with relevant work experience will also be considered

• Proven excellence in research, analytical, writing and presentation skills

• Ability to think creatively and imaginatively, with strengths in synthesizing information from different sources and storytelling

• Background in video production will be a strong advantage

• Strong administrative and project management skills

• Team player with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills

Contract Duration: 1 Year
