We are seeking a proactive and adaptable Research Operations Officer to provide hands-on operational support for A*STAR SRL and SRIS.

Key Accountabilities

Laboratory Operations Support

• Provide on-the-ground support for A*STAR SRL and SRIS laboratory operations, including coordination of laboratory access, supplies, consumables, and essential operational materials.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, organised, and operationally ready laboratory environment, including serving as a dept safety representative to support lab operational safety.
• Coordinate with vendors, facilities, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and availability of laboratory resources.

• Assist with asset-related activities, where required.

General Operations Support

• Assist with general administrative and coordination tasks across Planning & Operations as required e.g., Invoice management, Goods Receipt, tracking of temp access passes, business continuity, events logistics support, as well as other tasks, as delegated.
• Act as a Procurement Advocate, supporting laboratory users with basic procurement guidance and advising on best practices to facilitate compliant and efficient purchasing processes.
• Support licence subscriptions and management, including renewals and issuance.
• Manage and track laboratory notebooks, including issuance and record-keeping.

Compliance & Documentation

• Support compliance with institutional policies and operational procedures related to laboratory and general operations.

Job Requirements

NUS Cities at the College of Design and Engineering is recruiting a full-time Research Assistant to join a research project to investigate the relationship between natural environment, perceptions and affordances, and motivations to use for health promotion purposes. The contract will be for 18 months with possible extension subject to funding availability.

Job scope:

The Laboratory of Skin Stem Cell Dynamics, headed by Dr. Kenneth Lay, investigates how stem cells of the skin govern tissue homeostasis and contribute to disease pathogenesis so as to reveal novel pharmacological intervention points. We focus on two stem cell populations that maintain distinct compartments of the skin throughout our lifetime: epidermal stem cells and hair follicle stem cells. We use in vivo mouse models and in vitro human 2D cell culture, 3D skin organotypics and iPSC-derived skin organoids, and employ cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and omics technologies to tackle inflammatory skin disorders, including atopic dermatitis and hair loss.

Qualifications

•    Education: PhD in Radiochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.

•    Expertise: In-depth knowledge of radiochemical synthesis, purification techniques, and characterization methods for radiopharmaceuticals. Expertise in GMP practices and regulatory compliance is required.

The A*STAR Skin Research Labs is seeking a Scientist with strong expertise in Artificial Intelligence and Biotechnology to lead and support analytical research on the Digital Twin of Skin (DTS) and optical metrology of Asian skin. Skin is a remarkably complex organ, and our approach embraces this richness by decomposing it across multiple spatial and biological scales—nano, micro, and meso. At the nanoscale, this includes molecular and cellular information such as DNA, RNA, proteins, and other biochemical constituents, while higher scales capture tissue structure, optical properties, and functional responses.

The Digital Twin of Skin will integrate rigorous biophysical modeling with state-of-the-art AI methodologies into a unified framework that links mechanisms with data and prediction with interpretation. Importantly, the DTS will be explicitly tailored to address melanin-related challenges in Asian skin, including its influence on optical signatures, light–tissue interactions, and downstream diagnostic and therapeutic accuracy. By embedding melanin-aware modeling across scales, the platform aims to enable more accurate, equitable, and clinically relevant skin analytics.

This work sits at the intersection of physics, biology, and machine intelligence, and offers a rare opportunity to shape how skin health, diagnostics, and interventions are understood and developed for Asian populations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Develop AI and biophysics-based models across multiple biological and physical scales.

The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading multi-disciplinary institute devoted to developing new paradigms for understanding biological functions in health and diseases from the perspective of cell, tissue and organ mechanics/dynamics and mechano-signal transduction. The institute operates on a fully integrated open-lab philosophy, with an extensive infrastructure supported by core facilities dedicated to technology such as state-of-the-art light microscopy, nano- and micro- fabrication, and computing.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join our multidisciplinary team investigating the biophysical and mechanochemical properties of signalling proteins on 3D shaped membranes. The successful candidate will work at the interface of membrane biophysics, cell signalling, and nanofabrication-based membrane curvature control, contributing to a broader effort to understand how membrane environment regulates protein activation and signalling at the cellular and molecular levels.

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading independent and collaborative research on curvature-regulated protein activation and signaling on membranes
• Developing and applying nanofabricated platforms (e.g., nanopillars, nanobars, nanorings) to probe membrane curvature effects
• Performing in vitro reconstitution (e.g., supported lipid bilayers, phase separation systems) and live-cell assays (e.g., T cell signaling)
• Utilizing advanced imaging techniques (e.g., confocal, TIRF, SIM, STED) and quantitative image analysis
• Building and implementing computational pipelines for image quantification and biophysical analysis
• Contributing to high-impact publications, grant writing, and mentoring of junior researchers

Qualifications

• PhD in Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong background in membrane protein biochemistry, membrane biophysics, membrane modulation (ideally magnetic tweezer and micropipette manipulation), or single-molecule techniques.
