About Project

Aquatic foods are among the most nutrient-dense foods available and can play a critical role in improving dietary quality and addressing micronutrient deficiencies among nutritionally vulnerable populations (Golden et al., 2021). Over the past decade, WorldFish and its partners have developed and tested a diverse range of fish-based products, including fish powders, dried fish products, fish chutneys, porridges, noodles, cookies, and fish snacks. These products have been designed to improve access to nutritious aquatic foods among target groups such as infants and young children during the first 1,000 days of life, pregnant and lactating women, and school-aged children, while also supporting rural livelihoods and women’s economic participation. Fish-based product initiatives have been implemented across multiple countries and contexts, generating valuable experience on product development, nutritional quality, consumer acceptability, production models, and pathways to scale.

In 2024, WorldFish convened an e-learning event that brought together teams from seven countries to document experiences, lessons learned, and research priorities related to fish-based products. The discussions informed the development of the brief Fish-based Products in Diverse Aquatic Food Systems: Innovating with Product Development to Tackle Malnutrition and Improve Livelihoods https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12348/6115, which synthesized more than a decade of WorldFish experience across 21 projects. The review highlighted the diversity of products developed, their potential contributions to nutrition and livelihoods, and the need for stronger evidence on affordability, market integration, scalability, food safety, and impact.

About Position

We are seeking a motivated and capable Master's student intern to undertake a comparative assessment of fish-based products developed through WorldFish-supported initiatives. Building on findings from the 2024 WorldFish brief and the accompanying e-learning event, the internship will involve compiling, validating, and synthesizing information from multiple country programmes. Particular attention will be given to documenting product formulation, nutritional characteristics, target populations, production systems and distribution, market integration pathways, and evidence of scaling. The intern will work closely with WorldFish staff across country offices and will produce a comparative inventory and assessment matrix as well as a technical report and identifying cross-country lessons, evidence gaps, and opportunities for future investment in nutrition-sensitive aquatic food systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible to:

• Review and compile existing information on fish-based products developed through WorldFish initiatives.

• Conceptualise the dissemination plan of studies together with Advocacy Unit, contribute to the dissemination plan including writing up and presenting findings to relevant stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with social service practitioners to evaluate programmes and services.
• Responsibilities include supporting the development of concept papers (TOC, logic model, needs analysis), proposal of suitable frameworks, methods and tools for programme evaluation, analysis of results, and contributing to reports detailing findings and recommendations.
• Contribute to other team efforts, such as research newsletters, research grant, organizing of events.

Requirements:

• Honours Degree in Psychology / Sociology / Social Work or related discipline
• Past work experience is preferred
• Past research experience is required
  i) Past research experience should be evident (e.g. RA, internship, thesis, peer-reviewed research publications)
  ii) Candidate should have sound statistical knowledge and be proficient in using statistical software such as Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to conduct data analysis
  iii) Prior experience in conducting programme evaluation and knowledge of social service sector preferred but not necessary

Job Description

The Centre for International Law (CIL) was established in 2009 as a university-level research institute at National University of Singapore (NUS). CIL engages in both legal and multi-disciplinary research on a wide variety of international law issues. Its mission is to enable Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region to play a more significant role in the promotion and development of international law. CIL invites applications for a one-year Research Associate position. We seek an early career scholar specialising in public international law with a strong interest in the governance of artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability to work as part of the AI and Technology Law programme led by Dr Jon Truby. This position is part of CIL's expanding research programme on AI law, climate and environmental sustainability, and digital governance within the international legal framework. The Research Associate will have the opportunity to advance their research profile in a dynamic and supportive environment at the intersection of AI, sustainability and public international law.

Responsibilities: 

• Conduct high-quality research on the nexus between AI and digital technologies, international law and sustainability.
• Prepare and publish at least one substantial piece of scholarly work suitable for submission to a reputable journal during the appointment.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of CIL’s research agenda on AI, technology and sustainability, including conceptualising new projects and outputs.
• Assist in the preparation of project proposals related to AI governance, climate and sustainability in international law.
• Support the planning, development and organisation of seminars, workshops and conferences, and present research at academic seminars and similar fora.
• Monitor and analyse developments in international law related to AI, emerging technologies and sustainable development, and prepare briefings and research materials for CIL’s programmes.
• Support and expand CIL’s role in regional and global forums addressing legal frameworks for AI, digital technologies and sustainability.
• Contribute, where appropriate, to CIL’s broader research projects, events and initiatives.
• Reside in Singapore throughout the term of appointment, in accordance with NUS policies on residence and leave.

Qualifications

• An LLM, JD degree or equivalent experience, preferably with a focus on AI and/or sustainability or climate and environmental governance;
• Demonstrated scholarly interest in AI and technology law, together with a clear interest in sustainability or climate and environmental governance in international law;
• Proven strong research and writing capabilities, evidenced by publications, working papers or a high-quality dissertation;
• Strong analytical skills to navigate the intersections of AI, sustainability and international law, and to conduct both independent and collaborative research;
• High level of self-motivation and organisational skills, including the ability to manage research tasks, coordinate activities and consistently meet deadlines;
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, with excellent oral and written communication skills, and proficiency in relevant IT tools that facilitate research and collaboration.

Centre for Lifelong Learning and Individualised Cognition CLIC is a research collaboration between the University of Cambridge and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and hosted by the Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore (CARES) that aims to develop neuroscience-based interventions for lifelong flexible learning. Launched in October 2020 and funded by the National Research Foundation Singapore, CLIC brings together a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, neuroscientists, linguists and educators who conduct innovative research in the science of learning.

The world of today is constantly evolving to keep pace with advances in technology and globalisation, requiring individuals to adapt and develop new skills to ensure resilience through a culture of lifelong flexible learning. Mental flexibility is required in order to adapt to change, problem-solve creatively in new situations and make the most of opportunities including emerging career opportunities. The capacity for cognitive flexibility is thus central to the modern digital age and our education system needs innovation to ensure citizens are equipped to develop these future skills. For example, major global challenges, including climate change, renewable energy, and food security, will require novel and creative approaches and solutions.

CLIC researchers are developing a neuroscience-based model of flexible learning, including important social contextual factors, in order to inform the design of practical, real-life interventions for use in schools and the workplace. This will ensure that individuals are not only prepared for future career success, but also have a good quality of life and wellbeing, thus supporting a flourishing society.

The CLIC program is seeking one full-time Research Associate (with potential opportunities for reappointment). The research associate will support research activities focusing on cognitive flexibility and learning, and training-related brain changes among adults and adolescents. Given the highly inter-disciplinary nature of the project, the research assistant will be expected to take on opportunities for involvement in research activities related to human neuroimaging, language, infant cognition/learning and pedagogy.

• Support the recruitment of approximately young adults (18 – 30 years) from vocational institutions (e.g. ITE, polytechnics and universities) as well as from the general working population via community sampling (e.g. community centres, clinics, via social media platforms).

• Organize the collection of datasets

• Overview and standardize protocols for data coding, data entry and data analysis for the datasets

• Assist with the preparation of conference presentations journal papers

• Other administrative duties

Essential requirements:

• Master's degree in Psychology, Neuropsychology, Cognitive Neuroscience or a related discipline

• Prior experience in conducting adult cognitive testing and neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG)

• Prior experience with participant recruitment processes

• Prior experience and familiarity with data management protocols and ethical regulatory frameworks in Singapore

• Experience in performing general administration tasks for research projects

• Experience in producing research reports

• Good statistical knowledge and skills, including familiarity with statistical analysis software such as R and SPSS

• Good IT skills (Office®)

• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent organizational skills and able to work within given deadlines

• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
