Project Overview

The DiSTAP programme addresses deep problems in food production in Singapore and the world by developing a suite of impactful and novel analytical, genetic and biosynthetic technologies. DiSTAP is one of the five Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs) of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART).  The research engineer will join an interdisciplinary team of chemists, engineers and plant biologists in the development, modification and characterization of functional conjugated polymers with unique optical properties that could potentially be used for cell imaging. These novel tools enables optimal crop production and rapid development of plants suitable for high-density farming and revolutionalizes urban farming strategies.

Responsibilities

• Support the DiSTAP nanosensor team in the development and validation of novel single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)-based sensors, with a primary focus on Covalent Organic Framework microneedles (COF-MNs) and nanosensors for nutrient sensing.

  • Support sample preparation and data generation for feed and ingredient testing.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices and basic QA/QC procedures.

People & Capability Development

• • Provide hands-on leadership and mentoring to technical staff.
  • Transfer operational know-how and best practices to build a competent team.
  • Support the training and upskilling of staff involved in feed production.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met.

Operational Integration

• • Work closely with the Centre Director on production planning, resource allocation, and prioritisation.
  • Support the Centre Director in the engagement of external parties.
  • Support the smooth integration of feed mill operations within the Research Centre’s broader project and service portfolio.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisors.

Job Requirements:

• Have relevant competence in feed production, processing, or a related technical field.
• Have a degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Aquaculture, Chemical/Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience in feed milling, extrusion processing, or laboratory analysis (e.g. proximate analysis, QA/QC) will be advantageous.
• Strong hands-on, problem-solving, and team-leadership skills will be advantageous.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• At least 3 years of software engineer / backend development experience (Java / Node.Js) is preferable for this post
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals (operating systems, network principles, data structures, and algorithms)
• Programming Languages: High proficiency in Java (including JVM internals and performance tuning) or Node.js (including its event-driven architecture and asynchronous programming model). Proficiency in both is a significant plus.
• Frameworks & Middleware: Proficient with common open-source frameworks and tools such as Kafka, RocketMQ, Dubbo, Zookeeper, and Redis.
• Deep knowledge of MySQL, including schema design, SQL optimization, and database scaling strategies.
• System Experience: Proven, hands-on experience in building, deploying, and maintaining high-concurrency, high-performance, and high-availability systems.
