Volt14 offers scalable, drop-in technology solutions to bring cutting-edge lithium-ion battery performance to mass-market applications. As we accelerate the development of high-energy and high-power solutions, we are looking for a highly capable, hands-on Battery Cell Development Engineer to join our technical team.
Responsibilities
Cell Design & Modeling: Assist the technical team in the design of high-performance, battery cells using a range of advanced input materials. Utilize first-principles quantitative modeling of mechanical, electrical and chemical phenomena to guide the design of various cell formats.
Hands-on Prototyping: Directly conduct the end-to-end prototyping of battery cells, ranging from coin cells to pouch and cylindrical formats.
Assembly & Process Execution: Actively execute cell assembly processes, including electrode winding, stacking, and electrolyte filling. Perform glovebox operations for sensitive material handling and assembly.
Electrochemical Analysis: Analyze complex electrochemical testing data to infer physical phenomena of interest. Translate raw data into actionable insights for cell design iterations.
Post-Mortem Analysis: Lead the disassembly and forensic post-mortem analysis of various cell formats to identify failure modes and optimize performance.
Technical Support: Assist the technical team in all tasks regarding the production and prototyping of cells. This includes the preparation of documentation for the maintenance, upgrades, and operation of laboratory and pilot-scale equipment, as well as supporting any future scale-up activities.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed technical reports, maintain precise lab records, and contribute to internal and external presentations.
Requirements
Direct Experience: Proven hands-on experience in the assembly of battery cells at a laboratory scale. Prior experience with at least pilot-scale production is a significant advantage.
Analytical Skills: Deep understanding of electrochemical data analysis (e.g., cycling, rate capability, EIS) and the ability to link data patterns to physical/chemical phenomena within the cell.
Productivity Tools: Mastery of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Proficiency in utilizing AI-based research and productivity tools is a must.
Educational Background: An undergraduate degree with at least 3 years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Materials or related engineering disciple.
Startup Mindset: This is a hands-on role, not a theoretical one. You must be comfortable with intensive lab work, thrive in a fast-paced startup environment requiring self-initiative.
Remuneration
Compensation will be commensurate with skills and experience.
