ABOUT YOUR ROLE:

As part of our strategic evolution to strengthen material sourcing across our performance and lifestyle brands, we are creating a dedicated Material Sourcing Manager role to support Smartwool and Icebreaker. This role is designed to unify and elevate material development efforts across these brands, ensuring alignment with business goals, brand identities, and sustainability commitments.

Reporting directly to the Director of Apparel Sourcing, the Material Manager will lead a team focused on building strong partnerships with brand material development and product creation teams. The role will drive material excellence by optimizing supplier performance, enabling innovation, and ensuring timely and compliant material delivery across all apparel categories.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Cross-Brand Partnership & Alignment

• Serve as the central point of contact for material development across Smartwool and Icebreaker.
• Align seasonal material strategies with brand-specific product creation calendars and priorities.
• Facilitate cross-brand collaboration to leverage synergies and share best practices.

Supplier Relationship & Performance Management

• Own supplier relationships and performance across all three brands, using KPIs to drive quality, cost, delivery, innovation, and sustainability.
• Lead supplier negotiations and capacity planning to support seasonal and strategic needs.
• Implement corrective actions and continuous improvement plans with underperforming suppliers.

Material Development & Commercialization

• Oversee development and commercialization of materials, ensuring technical, compliance, and brand standards are met.
• Manage testing, approvals, and documentation within PLM systems.
• Support innovation and differentiation through material capabilities aligned with brand DNA.

Material Supply Optimization

• Monitor material readiness, lead times, and delivery schedules to ensure on-time availability.
• Collaborate with sourcing and planning teams to mitigate risks and optimize supply chain efficiency.
• Support supplier allocation and capacity planning across brands.

Sustainability & Innovation Leadership

• Champion the integration of sustainable and circular materials into the development pipeline.
• Stay ahead of emerging material technologies and supplier innovations to drive brand differentiation.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and develop a team of material developers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Set clear goals, provide coaching and feedback, and support career development.

WHAT WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:

Technical & Functional Expertise

• Material Knowledge: Deep understanding of textile construction, finishing, dyeing, and performance standards, wool related experience is preferred.
• Supplier Management: Skilled in managing global mill relationships, supplier scorecards, and performance improvement plans.
• Sustainability Expertise: Familiarity with sustainable materials, certifications (e.g., GRS, Bluesign, OekoTex), and circular design principles.

About your role: 

In this role, you will lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team responsible for the deployment, optimization, and readiness of PD tools across the Footwear and Equipment organization, serving as the primary interface between PD and Platform teams. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving the preservation and management of organizational knowledge by ensuring the development, maintenance, and updating of SOPs, as well as standardizing internal processes to minimize knowledge loss and ensure continuity.  

You will champion the development of technical and nurture future talent, particularly in footwear technology, by promoting targeted training and development initiatives. You will ensure the consistent use of best practices, tools, and processes, translating enterprise frameworks and strategic initiatives into practical, brand-relevant solutions for your team and the broader organization.  

Your responsibilities will include (but not limited): 

• Knowledge Preservation  

• Oversee the preservation and management of organizational knowledge to ensure continuity and minimize knowledge loss; 

• Map, standardize, and document internal processes by developing, maintaining, and updating SOPs. 

• Capabilities Development  

• Lead the development of technical skills within the team and nurture future talent with a focus on footwear technology. 

• Drive continuous enhancement of the Product Development team's technical capabilities through targeted training and development initiatives. 

• Define, promote, and ensure the consistent and effective use of best practices, tools, and processes across the organization. 

• Translate enterprise frameworks and strategic initiatives into practical, brand-relevant solutions for the team and broader organization. 

• Drive operational excellence by leading initiatives related to development execution, governance, and reporting. 

• Ensure alignment and collaboration across regions, brands, and vendors to maintain high standards and unified processes. 

• Development KPI Governance & Intelligence  

• Establish and oversee governance of KPIs to measure and drive performance. 

• Support and enforce milestone adherence and execution discipline throughout project lifecycles. 

• Deliver fact-based insights and PD intelligence to enable informed, data-driven decision making. 

• Tools Adoption & Readiness  

• Lead the deployment, optimization, and readiness of Product Development tools, serving as the primary liaison between Product Development and Platform teams (e.g., PxM, PSE). 

• Ensure consistent and effective utilization of tools across teams and functions. 

• Define, align, and promote best practices for tool usage and process implementation across brands in collaboration with platform teams. 

• Own and lead category-specific business initiatives, translating enterprise frameworks into actionable results at the category level. 

• Operational Execution  

• Oversee SMS PO management for all brands, including resolving discrepancies, tracking PR/PO conversion, ensuring PO acknowledgment and system updates, confirming sample packaging, and monitoring shipping and communications with brands/regions. 

• Manage ECN (Engineering Change Notice) data to maintain accuracy and process integrity.

Desirable Qualifications & Competencies: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field. MBA is a plus; 

• Minimum 7–10 years of experience in the field of process engineering or manufacturing , with at least 3 years in a senior managerial role; 

• Experience working with overseas factories, and a multi-cultural factory management team;  

• Proven experience in leading & developing team. 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, PLM systems, and production planning tools. 

• Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the region. 

Job Role Summary:

• To understand and fully align with product development roadmap developed by SCS GHQ including but not limited to IT solutions
• To develop solution design capability to support various type of client opportunities brought in by Solution BD team
• To conceptualize and develop data-driven solution frameworks (e.g., visibility dashboards, performance analytics) that strengthen solution design and regional product enhancement
• Support Opco with customer implementation process until handover
• To provide post-Go Live and enhancement support for implemented client accounts, addressing system and product issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
• To manage SCS product data repository for effective internal information exchange

What the Role involves:

Solution design and modelling

• To assist HOD to lead solution design activity to capture actual customer requirements and collect necessary information ensuring quality of supply chain solution models and proposals

Industry trends and new technology implementation

• Participate in Webinars, industry events to search for solution partners
• Be aware of competition developments, identify gap or threat in the market, and reflect in product development strategy
• To Catch up with latest development of YL SCS development and learn from other regions best practices, collate these info and work with HOD to promote within SAOR

Product development and promotion

• Act as ambassador of the supply chain solutions team to promote SCS service and products across business units and RHQ / OPCOs
• To assist HOD to collect local and regional business requirement and feedback to HOD and work with GHQ for product enhancement

Required Skills / Experience / Qualifications:

• Preferably with prior working experience in Logistics, Supply Chain Solutions, Business Administration.
• More than 6 years of Key Account Management experience in logistics industry with exposure in providing both freight forwarding and contract logistics solution
• Experience in supply chain IT implementation is a plus
• Excellence knowledge of the logistics industry (freight forwarding, contract logistics, land transportation, etc.)
• Experience in supply chain solution design, process mapping, data analytics, and Power BI dashboard design/development is an advantage.
• Demonstrated excellence skill of strategic and tactics problem solving
