About The Team
The Citizen Developers Infrastructure team sits within the Infrastructure & Productivity organization and is responsible for the internal platform that powers critical business processes at Airwallex.
We build and operate a citizenādeveloper platform that lets nonāproduct engineering groups safely build and run workflows and automations. Our goal is to make it easy and safe for these ācitizen developersā to ship value quickly while embedding security, compliance, and software engineering best practices by default.
This role is based in Singapore.
What Youāll Do
As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer on the Citizen Developers Infrastructure team, you will design, build, and operate the platform services that underpin Airwallexās citizenādeveloper ecosystem and internal workflow automation.
You will partner closely with application teams and citizen developers to define tooling, patterns, and development processes, while continuously improving the platform abstractions and paved paths they build on. Youāll be responsible both for the developer experience and guardrails of the platform, and for the underlying workflow infrastructure that makes it reliable and scalable.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and evolve the citizenādeveloper platform and tools that make it easy to create and operate automation / applications without deep infrastructure knowledge.
Establish secure SDLC and guardrails for citizenādeveloperābuilt applications so compliance and security are baked in by default.
Build selfāserve development and operations tooling that reduce dependence on central platform engineers.
Design, build, and maintain the Temporalābased workflow infrastructure, addressing challenges such as multiātenancy, high availability, and cost effectiveness.
Contribute to the Kubernetes and GitOps foundation (ArgoCD, Helm, Terraform) that powers the platform, ensuring deployments are safe, repeatable, and auditable.
Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and onācall rotation for workflowārelated services, leading incident response and driving longāterm fixes where needed.
Document standards, best practices, and reference architectures so teams building on top of the platform have clear, selfāserve guidance.
Who You Are
You are a backend/platform engineer who enjoys building shared platforms, cares deeply about developer experience, correctness, and operability, and is comfortable working at the intersection of application code and infrastructure.
You get energy from enabling other teams to move faster safely, through wellādesigned abstractions, tooling, and guardrails.
Qualifications
6+ years of experience in Software / Platform Engineering roles, building and operating backend or platform services in production.
Strong handsāon experience with at least one strongly typed backend language (e.g., Golang, Java) and familiarity with Python or Bash for tooling/automation.
Experience designing and building internal platforms or developer tooling used by multiple teams, with a strong focus on developer experience.
Experience with Kubernetes and GitOps practices/tooling (ideally ArgoCD and Terraform).
Experience building platforms or tooling for nonāproduct engineering users (e.g., operations, finance, analysts) or lowācode/noācode / citizenādeveloper environments is a strong plus.
Proven experience with Temporal or similar workflow/orchestration systems (e.g., Cadence, Step Functions, Airflow) or largeāscale stateful workloads (e.g., Redis clusters, Cassandra, HBase) in production is a huge plus.
Comfortable working in highly collaborative, multiāteam environments, able to translate platform constraints into clear APIs, contracts, and paved paths for application teams and citizen developers.
Practical, proactive problem solver who can navigate ambiguity, break down complex technical problems, and drive them to closure.
