Responsibilities & Duties:
Core responsibilities:
- Inspect and test engines to find faults (visual checks, listening for abnormal noise, power checks, scan-tool diagnostics, etc.).
- Diagnose problems in key systems: fuel, ignition, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, air intake, and engine mounting/suspension.
- Dismantle engines or components (cylinder head, pistons, crankshaft, timing system) for detailed inspection and measurement.
- Repair or replace worn and defective parts, then reassemble and adjust the engine according to manuals and specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance: oil and filter changes, spark plug replacement, belt changes, valve clearance adjustment, tune‐ups.
- Run the engine after repair (idle and load tests), check performance, and fine‐tune for smooth running and correct fuel consumption.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Carry out scheduled services on Engine related equipment, Hydraulic Power packs, Compressors, High Pressure Waterjet pumps (fluids, filters, inspection checklists).
- Use diagnostic tools and software to read fault codes and monitor engine parameters.
- Adjust and repair engine support systems: cooling fans, radiators, water pumps, oil pumps, fuel pumps, injectors or carburetors.
- Maintain records (PMS) of work done, parts used, and tests performed to meet workshop or regulatory requirements.
- Communicate findings, repair options, and costs to Technical Managers or customers.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Relevant trade certification, diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in servicing, troubleshooting, overhauling, and repairing diesel and petrol engines.
- Hands-on experience with diesel engines (e.g., Yanmar, Lister, Kubota, Deutz, HATZ), including overhaul of engine blocks, cylinder heads, injectors, and high-pressure fuel systems.
- Hands-on experience with petrol engines (e.g., Honda), including overhaul of engine blocks, cylinder heads, injectors, and fuel systems.
- Experience with offshore or marine engine systems, including winches, hydraulic systems, piping, and instrumentation, will be an advantage.
- Experience in compressor and engine repair is an added advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics, technical drawings, wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical bulletins.
- Strong practical mechanical skills, including the use of hand tools, torque wrenches, micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Basic electrical and electronic troubleshooting knowledge, particularly for modern engines equipped with sensors, ECUs, and engine management systems.
- Good understanding of workplace safety practices when working with engines, fuels, exhaust systems, lifting equipment, and rotating machinery.
