While being part of the broader Tax and Finance team (more than 300 professionals) you will also work closely with the Product, Commercial and Legal teams.  

The aim of this position is to manage global tax advisory matters related to VAT, sales tax, GST and other indirect taxes for Agoda, including the compliance with tax regulations across the globe, with special focus on relationship and transactions with Strategic Partners in a fast‑evolving business environment. You will have end-to-end responsibility for your own projects from scoping the challenge (incl. budgeting) to the overall solution (execution and implementation), including stakeholder management and relationships with our tax advisors. While this role remains very hands-on, you will also be expected to contribute to the long-term vision of the tax team and to share your tax technical expertise with the broader team to support their growth.  

This role involves interaction with our Senior Leadership Team, US parent company, sister brands, international offices, business managers, functional teams, IT and other finance and legal colleagues. Due to rapid growth of the organization, the tasks and duties of this role may evolve over time.  You are expected to proactively identify new areas where tax support is needed, take initiative in shaping solutions, and take on additional challenges and responsibilities as they arise.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

• Assessment of indirect tax position and interpretation of our business models 
• Analyze indirect tax implications and define requirements for existing and new programs/products and partnerships proactively identify risks and opportunities, make relevant key decisions and drive the practical implementation of these requirements in internal systems
• Research and keep abreast of global indirect tax developments, evaluate and decide on necessary business and process changes, develop and execute plans accordingly to ensure compliance with new tax rules and regulations
• Work on contracts and evaluate/work on them from an Indirect Tax Advisory perspective. 
• Manage and oversee indirect tax projects and develop strategic and operational implementation work plans to ensure new service or country launches are tax compliant and timely.
• Manage, influence, and challenge cross-functional stakeholders (Commercial, Product, Legal, Finance, IT, etc.) to ensure tax compliant and scalable solutions, assertively representing tax requirements while balancing business objectives.
• Solid understanding of how indirect taxes affect in-house financial applications and systems,
• Oversee and support team members working on reconciliation of revenue, purchase, output VAT/GST and input VAT/GST with financials
• Coordinate with external advisors on various indirect tax issues, e.g. obtain tax advice as necessary and support team members with accurate and timely indirect tax reporting and tax payments. Responsible for indirect tax awareness and appreciation within the Agoda group.
• Contribute to the long-term vision of the tax team

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelors or Master’s degree in Tax Economics/Law, Accounting, Finance or any business/similar related field. Graduate degree in taxation is an additional asset
• Minimum 8 years of indirect tax experience in a Big 4 / Top law firm / major in-house experience is a plus
• Solid technical knowledge of indirect taxes (VAT/GST) in a global environment is a must. Previous experience in APAC, EMEA or US regions is a plus  
• Detail-oriented individual who independently and proactively lead medium/high complexity projects with global impact (cross-functional) drive them through problem definition, design, execution, analysis, recommendation and implementation
• Project management expertise and organizational skills are a strong plus.
• Strong English) verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complicated tax technical issues to senior leadership
• Experience with indirect tax setup in systems, including ERP systems (Oracle) is an asset
• E-commerce or travel industry experience is a plus

Job Description

As a member and contributor of the Strategy and Innovation Office (SIO) team, you will lead and drive strategic planning and policy development, distilling insights in consultation with SNEC and SingHealth’s senior management and MOH to determine and prioritise short, mid and long-term strategies for sustained growth of SNEC as the flagship national eye centre catering to the eye care needs of more than 50% of our population.

You will lead and formulate strategic plans and engagement using various strategy development frameworks. You will also communicate the strategy development process, lead engagement with various levels of staff in the formulation of the strategy, encourage the integration of workflows and lead ad-hoc projects that will support and drive the centre’s strategies. You are also required also provide secretariat support for key management meetings and retreats to discuss ideas and initiatives, and co-ordinate overall strategic policies and directions to ensure congruence.

Corporate and Eye Care Strategy Planning and Development

• Lead and drive the end-to-end development of and engagement for the centre’s strategic plans and initiatives to ensure that they are robust, coherent and well-articulated.

• Support the implementation of the Enterprise Strategic Plan (ESP) by conceptualising initiatives, establishing execution frameworks, and developing monitoring mechanisms to track and report progress against planned deliverables. Continually monitor the healthcare and business landscape; conduct structured horizon scanning activities, including facilitating discussions on emerging healthcare trends and their implications, and developing thematic analyses to support strategic environmental scanning. Perform and integrate research, leveraging on internal and external data with ground-sensing and overarching national policies.

• Evaluate and analysis findings to identify new and emerging market opportunities, issues and challenges in the local and global environment.

• Organise seminars and events on review of ESP, emerging trends, cross-sector learning in relation to the ESP and organize learning journeys for management to other organisations.

• Facilitate the development and coordination of actionable implementation plans (short, medium and long term) aligned with the overall strategies.

• Engage stakeholders and decision-makers and communicate policy and other considerations, strategies and plans, and intended outcomes clearly and convincingly.

• Develop and execute strategic communications plans, including publications such as ESP E-Bulletins and Future Sights Reports, to maintain regular engagement and communications cadence with stakeholders

• Prepare and present strategy papers and presentations.

• Support the development of regular performance reports for management as well as facilitating cross-functional performance reviews for the leadership.

Strategic Relations/Partnership Management

• Provide oversight and guidance on strategic relations/partnership with external parties.

• Lead, develop and drive engagement on policies, procedures and process flow for review and approval of formalisation of strategic relations/partnership, including via MOUs, agreements and/or contracts.

• Monitor and track outcomes, deliverables, and status (renewal or cessation) of strategic relations/partnership, including via MOUs, agreements and/or contracts.

Population Health and Capitation Steering Committee (PHCSC)

• Review eye population health strategy and related workstreams.

• Ensure effective meeting management and succinct minutes of meeting, preparation of management reports and presentation slides.

• Follow-up on key action items (by stakeholders) to ensure they are closed and completed.

• Ensure strategic follow-through, propose systematic agenda management, and enhance committee knowledge through relevant insights sharing

Secretariat responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an efficient format for key leadership meetings.

• Provide timely summary of work plan implementation for HoD’s review.

• Ensure effective meeting management and succinct minutes of meeting, preparation of management reports and presentation slides.

• Follow-up on key action items (by stakeholders) to ensure they are closed and completed.

• Ensure strategic follow-through, propose systematic agenda management, and enhance committee knowledge through relevant insights sharing.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Strategy, Business, Corporate Finance, Information Systems, or related field.

• At least 8 years’ of relevant work experience in corporate and healthcare strategic planning and development, business and management consulting, corporate planning, organizational development, finance, research and analysis or similar fields.

• Experience in supporting the senior management in to reviewing and formulating strategies/policies.

• Resourceful and a strong team player with excellent planning and analytical skills, as well as able to work well independently.
