About SUTD Academy's Digital Learning Capability Centre

SUTD Academy’s Digital Learning Capability Centre (DLCC) powers up CET training and learning by developing new cyber-physical digital capabilities for the Continuing Education and Training (CET) sector. We are seeking a Backend Engineer to help build and maintain the server-side systems that support our AI, gamification, immersive, and cyber-physical solutions integrated with SUTD Academy’s activities, courses, and programmes.

What You’ll Do

• Implement and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs (primarily Python/Django) for web and cyber-physical applications

• Contribute to database design, migrations, and performance tuning

• Integrate with internal and external services (AI, gamification, embedded/IoT) via APIs, webhooks, and queues

• Write automated tests and contribute to CI/CD pipelines under guidance, supporting reliable releases

• Assist in deployment and monitoring on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS/Azure), investigating logs/metrics to troubleshoot issues

• Follow secure coding practices and support data privacy requirements

• Collaborate with frontend engineers, designers, and educators to refine APIs and improve end-to-end user experience

• Document technical designs, APIs, and change notes to support a future-ready product roadmap

• Assist in engineering operations (environment setup, Docker, scripts) and support pilots/demos with internal teams and partners

Who We Are Looking For

• Relevant Engineering Degree/Diploma or equivalent experience

• Proficient in Python and familiarity with a web framework (Django preferred); understanding of REST/JSON and basic WebSocket concepts

• Experience with relational database, ORMs, and schema migrations

• Experience with Git, code reviews, and writing unit/integration tests

• Experience implementing AI/LLM APIs within back-end architectures

• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker) is a plus

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with a growth mindset and attention to quality in a fast-moving environment

Design and architect enterprise ICT systems covering data ingestion, processing, storage, reporting, integration, and governance across on-prem and cloud environments.

Define scalable system architecture for data platforms, data lakes, ETL frameworks, API integrations, and real-time or batch processing solutions to support business operations.

Lead technical design of cloud-native architectures, including migration of legacy systems to modern platforms for improved performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Work with business, application, infrastructure, and security teams to translate functional requirements into end-to-end architecture, technical standards, and implementation roadmaps.

Establish architecture principles for system integration, data quality, security, governance, resilience, and operational support across enterprise ICT ecosystems.

Evaluate existing systems and recommend modernization strategies to reduce platform duplication, improve reliability, and enable enterprise-wide analytics and reporting capabilities.

Support solution delivery through architecture reviews, technical guidance, stakeholder engagement, and governance of implementation to ensure alignment with business and compliance requirements.

Job Summary

Responsibilities

• Define project scope, goals, deliverables, and develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets to guide execution.
• Track project progress against plans, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure quality control of deliverables.
• Identify potential risks, assess their impact, and implement effective mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.
• Serve as the primary liaison between project teams and stakeholders by conducting status meetings and preparing progress reports.
• Mentor team members, facilitate collaboration, and resolve conflicts to maintain a productive project environment.

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• 4+ years of project management experience.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with project management, strong sense of signage fabrication & installation knowledge.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or a related field.
• PMP (Project Management Professional) or PRINCE2 certification is highly preferred.
