Job Description

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking multiple determined full-time Research Associate(s) to join a new group led by Dr Angkana T Huang.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on one of several research projects using computational methods to understand the mechanisms underpinning the ecology and evolution of dengue and related arboviruses across Asia and globally. Climate change is the defining challenge of this century, and healthcare is both a victim of climate change and a major contributor to it. The Centre for Sustainable Medicine (CoSM) at the National University of Singapore works at the frontier of policy, clinical systems, and global health to accelerate the transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient health systems across Asia and worldwide.

Purpose of the Post

We invite applications from a dynamic, experienced professional to help advance CoSM’s research priorities and to strengthen the real-world uptake of the Centre’s work.

The postholder will work across the Centre’s major workstreams - including health system carbon analytics, clinical transformation, and capacity building - ensuring that research and technical evidence are synthesised, interpreted, and translated into decision-ready outputs for policymakers, health system leaders, clinicians, partners, and other stakeholders.

This is a cross-cutting role at the interface of research, policy, and implementation. 1. Research synthesis, analysis, and translation

The Luo Lab, based at LKCMedicine, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore is seeking a highly motivated, goal-driven, and team-oriented Research Fellow to join our research program. Our research focuses on elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of RNA virus infection and host defense, as well as structure-guided antiviral development. We employ interdisciplinary approaches spanning biochemistry, structural biology, virology, and cell biology. The NTU Institute of Structural Biology provides outstanding infrastructure, including state-of-the-art facilities for high-resolution cryo-EM/ET, X-ray crystallography, NMR, and a wide range of complementary biophysical techniques. Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in structural biology and/or RNA virus–host interactions.

• Design, execute, and analyze experiments using structural, biochemical, and cell-based approaches.

Key Competencies and Requirements:

What will you do as an Associate/AVP, Total Portfolio Sustainability Investment Research & Strategy?

• Conduct thematic/macro research: Perform in-depth investment research on sustainability issues such as climate change, nature, water, biodiversity, supply chains, labor management, and corporate governance. Evaluate their macroeconomic and investment implications and establish the firm’s view on these matters. 

• Collaborate with investment teams: Partner with top-of-the-house investment teams to develop comprehensive sustainability integration frameworks, methodologies, tools, and analytics for the total portfolio.

• Professional experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in conducting macro and/or thematic research across various asset classes. Experience with multi-asset allocation is highly regarded.

Job Description

    1.       To act as lead engineer in bringing to fruition the project English Philosophy Texts Online (EPTO), a free library of early modern philosophical and theological texts, whose pilot website is at English Philosophical Texts Online.  This builds on the long-term project Hume Texts Online, developed by Professor Millican together with Dr Amyas Merivale (who will continue to act as a consultant).  Hume Texts Online has become the standard resource for Hume scholars worldwide, and the aim of English Philosophical Texts Online is to do the same for a wide range of early modern texts, while extending significantly the analytical tools provided.

   2.        To support the development of technical and organisational software infrastructure for digital humanities within the Centre for Computational Social Science and Humanities, with a view to future grant applications and projects.

   3.        To provide materials, teaching and practical classes to support the application aspects of the course HS1503, Living with AI: Understanding the Technology that’s Changing Everything.  These include AI in humanities research, languages, texts, creative work, and related professional contexts.  Practical work will cover use and critical evaluation of relevant tools, e.g. in textual analysis, translation, research assistance, content generation, and decision support.

Teaching and support for the HS1503 course would be undertaken in close liaison with the course’s principal lecturer (likely to be Assistant Professor Daniel Waxman in Semester 1, and Professor Peter Millican in Semester 2).  It is expected that the appointee will be fully responsible for producing materials and running practical classes and tutorials on the application aspects of the course (but not on the philosophical or historical aspects), and for preparing the corresponding lectures.

Qualifications

This position requires a good first degree and an appropriate Master’s or Doctoral degree, with at least 2 years’ relevant work experience, and good knowledge, technical skills and expertise in the field of digital humanities.

The appointee is expected to have expertise and at least two years’ experience in relevant programming, with a keen interest in software development and exploration of new techniques for digital humanities (including application of machine learning to OCR and textual analysis, and innovative display of analytical results).  In addition, he or she should have some experience in teaching at a university level (or similar), and in producing appropriate educational materials.  Experience in mentoring junior staff, and in providing technical guidance on a variety of projects, would also be desirable.
