HANS LASER TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY GROUP (MALAYSIA) SDN. BHD. is seeking a talented and innovative Software Engineer to develop and maintain software solutions for advanced laser processing machines and industrial automation systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for machine control software development, PLC and HMI integration, motion control, machine vision, robotics, and communication with industrial devices.
Working closely with Electrical, Mechanical, and Application Engineers, you will design, develop, test, and optimize software that powers high-precision laser cutting, welding, marking, cleaning, and automated production equipment. This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about automation, real-time control systems, and smart manufacturing technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain machine control software for industrial automation and laser processing equipment.
- Design and implement software for machine sequencing, process control, alarms, diagnostics, and production monitoring.
- Integrate software with PLCs, HMIs, motion controllers, servo systems, industrial robots, and machine vision systems.
- Develop user-friendly Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications for machine operation and diagnostics.
- Configure and support industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, and TCP/IP.
- Develop motion control applications for multi-axis positioning, interpolation, and synchronized movement.
- Integrate barcode scanners, RFID systems, MES, databases, and Industry 4.0 connectivity where required.
- Perform software debugging, testing, validation, and optimization during machine assembly, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning.
- Troubleshoot software and automation issues during machine installation and customer support.
- Prepare software documentation, functional specifications, user manuals, and change records.
- Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, Production, and Service teams to deliver high-quality automation solutions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing software reliability, machine performance, and user experience.
- Travel locally and internationally for machine commissioning, upgrades, and technical support when required.
Job Requirements
- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in industrial automation, machine control software, or manufacturing systems. Fresh graduates with strong automation or software development projects are encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, C++, Python, or Java.
- Experience developing industrial machine software using Microsoft Visual Studio or equivalent development environments.
- Experience integrating PLCs.
- Knowledge of motion control systems, servo drives, and multi-axis synchronization.
- Experience developing HMI applications and industrial user interfaces.
- Understanding of industrial communication protocols, including EtherCAT, OPC UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, PROFINET, and Ethernet/IP.
- Familiarity with SQL databases, data logging, and production reporting.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Willingness to travel for machine commissioning and customer technical support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing software for laser cutting, laser welding, laser marking, laser cleaning, CNC machines, or other precision automation equipment.
- Experience with industrial robots such as FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa, KUKA, or Universal Robots.
- Experience integrating machine vision systems.
- Knowledge of real-time software development, multi-threading, and hardware interfaces.
- Familiarity with MES, IIoT, Industry 4.0, and cloud-based manufacturing solutions.
- Understanding of cybersecurity concepts for industrial control systems.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
