Project Title: Development of a Holistic Progress Tool for the Early Childhood Sector

Project Introduction:

This project aims to develop a “Holistic Progress” (HOP) Tool that early childhood (EC) educators can use to observe and document children’s holistic development in the second year of kindergarten. Phase 1 of the project focused on the development of the first cut of the teacher-completed HOP Tool (HOP V1) and preliminary tool completion guide. In Phase 2, HOP V1 was piloted with K2 educators and will be refined into HOP V2 based on psychometric data and stakeholder feedback. In Phase 3, HOP V2 will be piloted with a new sample of EC educators of K2 children and child outcomes assessments will be administered to examine validity evidence. In Phase 4, focus group discussions will be conducted with EC educators to gather feedback on the HOP Tool and develop the user guide.

The role of the Research Officer is to identify research streams, variables, data collection techniques and analysis methods that will be viable in translating research findings into clinical implementation. You will oversee the smooth running and track progress of the research study related activities and projects by working closely with the Principal Investigator and other members of the research team. You will monitor the project to make sure it follows the requirements and regulations and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS), maintain data security, ensure quality control of experiments and comply to lab safety terms.

- Knowledgeable in various molecular and genomic biology techniques required for the conducting of research activities which include Spatial genomics sample prep, Cryosectioning, H&E staining, library prep as well as ultra-high throughput NGS sequencing workflows.

Your responsibilities include:

- Familiar with entry and validation of research data, filtering of relevant information, analysis of experimental data to extract relevant findings and presentation of them in a clear manner. Maintenance of existing database and compliance to data storage and security.

- Aware of the various reagents and consumables in the lab and check their stock take daily.

- QC various equipment in the lab to ensure they are in running smoothly. To highlight when stock is low, or maintenance is faulty to lab members to allow for troubleshooting and procurement of essential items to keep the lab running.

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. The Luo Lab, based at LKCMedicine, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore is seeking a highly motivated, goal-driven, and team-oriented Research Fellow to join our research program. Our research focuses on elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of RNA virus infection and host defense, as well as structure-guided antiviral development. We employ interdisciplinary approaches spanning biochemistry, structural biology, virology, and cell biology. The NTU Institute of Structural Biology provides outstanding infrastructure, including state-of-the-art facilities for high-resolution cryo-EM/ET, X-ray crystallography, NMR, and a wide range of complementary biophysical techniques. We offer a dynamic and intellectually stimulating research environment that supports cutting-edge science and long-term career development. The position provides extensive opportunities for training in complementary methodologies, as well as for developing mentoring and teaching experience through close interaction with graduate students and supervision of undergraduate researchers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in structural biology and/or RNA virus–host interactions.

• Design, execute, and analyze experiments using structural, biochemical, and cell-based approaches.

• Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, and presentation of research findings.

• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students and actively participate in team-based research activities.

Key Competencies and Requirements:

• A recent Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, such as structural biology (cryo-EM/ET, X-ray crystallography), virology, molecular biology, or cell biology.

• Prior research experience and hands-on laboratory training in one or more of the following areas: structural biology (cryo-EM/ET), cell biology, or molecular and cellular virology.

• Strong self-motivation, excellent organizational skills, and effective written and oral communication abilities.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a diverse and interdisciplinary research team.
