The Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (LKYCIC) at the Singapore University of Technology and Design(SUTD) invites applications for full-time Research Assistant/Associate appointments to support applied research and innovation projects on people, communities, and cities.

The position is suited for candidates with strong interests in mixed-methods social science research, social policy innovation, community development, and translating research into real-world impact. About the role

Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on and reliable research technician to operate and manage our sputtering system, support day-to-day experimental work, and ensure smooth lab operations. This role is critical in enabling consistent thin film deposition for internal R&D and external projects.

Key Responsibilities
• Operate and manage a sputtering system (e.g. AJA International sputtering system) independently
• Perform thin film deposition for various projects and customer requirements
• Execute day-to-day experiments following defined process parameters and protocols
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and process deviations

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Fellow to join our interdisciplinary research team. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge theoretical and computational research in the following areas:

Research Areas:

1. Electromagnetism and Plasmonics: Theory and computational modeling of electromagnetism in complex media, plasmonic systems, and metamaterials, with a particular focus on cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) and interactions between light and matter at the nanoscale.
2. Inverse Design in Nanophotonics and Quantum Nanophotonics: Application of inverse design techniques to optimize and design novel photonic structures and devices, including metasurfaces, photonic crystals, and quantum nanophotonic systems.
3. Plasma and Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) Modeling: Development and application of advanced plasma modeling tools, such as particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), to study their interaction with plasmonic or excitonic systems.
4. Novel Optoelectronic Effects: Investigation of new optoelectronic phenomena in low-dimensional materials (e.g., 2D materials, nanowires, and quantum dots) and time crystals, focusing on their potential applications in next-generation devices.

Senior Research Fellow in Computational Modelling of Smart Knitted Textiles

We seek a Senior Research Fellow (3–5 years postdoctoral experience) to join a multidisciplinary team working on computational modelling of knitted textile structures for energy harvesting applications. The postholder will develop and apply advanced modelling and data-driven methods to establish quantitative links between textile architecture and functional performance, working in close collaboration with experimental colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and validate computational models of knitted fabric structures, capturing the mechanical behaviour of complex knit architectures under various loading conditions.
• Establish quantitative relationships between textile structural parameters — such as stitch geometry, yarn properties, and knit pattern — and functional energy harvesting performance.
