As the Learning & Development Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing the hotel’s learning & development function, including developing a complement of qualified departmental trainers and establishing a hotel system for generating training data and evaluating results.  

The Learning & Development Manager position impacts on the skills, knowledge and attitudes of every hotel employee and ensures the availability and use of effective resources. The position also plays a leading role in promoting the desired work culture around the Winning Ways of the InterContinental Hotels Group and the brand ethos. 

Your day-to-day: 

People 

Create training programmes to foster a positive work environment for all employees. Support and administer an annual team member satisfaction survey  

Educate and train managers on Crowne Plaza on-boarding programs/ Winning Culture in accordance with hotel or company policies including, performance management process, and related programmes to foster productivity, and enhance performance 

Analyze training needs of the hotel in general and individual departments, and develop strategies which address needs, presenting in the form of a Training Business Plan for the General Manager and Executive Committee for review 

Familiarize yourself with the IHG HR and Training Standards, localizing where necessary 

Ensure effective training programs are in place for the following: 

New Employee Orientation 

IHG Frontline 

Customer Service Training 

Technical job specific training (through certification of departmental standards and procedures) 

Supervisory Skills Training 

Management Development 

Fire, Life and Safety Training 

Selling Skills    

Employee retraining  

Establish a training library of books, videos, journals and audio-visual materials to assist trainers in their training programs and for staff personal development  

Design, produce and implement training programmes which meet specific departmental needs in conjunction with Department Heads, ensuring that training session plans are structured, and that training is effective  

Attend departmental training session and critique performance  

Liaise with other IHG Training Managers to share experiences and resources

Ensure that Department Heads abide by their responsibilities of employee training against departmental SOPs  

Provides input for probation and formal performance appraisal discussions to Line Managers in line with company guidelines  

Conducts/Drive Service Standard Audits and share feedback with department heads 

Financial  

Assist in the creation of and work within the established L&D/Training department budget and control expenses 

Monitor industrial trainees/interns/vocational trainees to manage costs and ensure statutory/IHG Academy compliances 

Monitor the progress of the Training Business Plan for each department to ensure that the training objectives are being achieved 

Effective utilization of Industrial Trainees to control PTEB 

Responsible Business  

Develop awareness and reputation of the hotel and the brand in the local community and promote team member involvement in local community 

Prepare and monitor training programs for IHG Academy 

Obtain a network of specialist training professionals who can assist with the conduct of training programmes for advanced or specialist training  

Liaise with educational institutions conducting hospitality and training courses  

Ensure the e- learning training is carried out on a timely basis

Key Responsibilities

Training Management

• Leads the training department with clear direction, inspires trainer performance, and drives collective accountability for learner outcomes.

• Builds productive relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams; responds professionally to stakeholder needs and expectations

• Uses data and performance metrics to evaluate training effectiveness, identify gaps, and continuously improve programme quality.

• Conduct trainer briefings, “train-the-trainer” sessions, and onboarding for newly assigned trainers.

• Conduct trainer observations to obtain feedback for improvement

• Allocate classrooms and deploy trainers based on intake sizes and subject expertise.

• Financial management, e.g. Submission of training hours to payroll department

• Demonstrates working knowledge of SSG, WSQ, SPF, SCDF, SFA and other frameworks to ensure full compliance in training delivery and documentation.

Facilities & Assessment Management

• Coordinate with assessors and manage assessment schedules.

• Prepare assessment props, rooms, and learner familiarisation sessions in line with SOPs.

• Ensure proper functioning of equipment (HHMD, Walk‑Through Metal Detectors, X‑ray machines, traffic wands).

• Oversee setup for specialized assessments such as XRay and CSSPB.

• Manage attendance tracking, QR code verification, and assessor processes.

• Provide learner care support for those assessed as Not Yet Competent (NYC), including reassessment arrangements.

• Compile weekly assessment results and attendance records for submission.

• Ensure classrooms & assessment rooms are properly equipped, clean, and conducive for training.

Post‑Assessment & In‑House Assessments

• Document assessment outcomes and maintain NYC records.

• Safekeep and replenish props, files, and assessment materials.

• Prepare and conduct in‑house assessments including assessment booklets, case studies, and SOA certificates.

• Ensure compliance with SSG reporting and audit requirements.

Training Materials & Equipment Management

• Maintain and perform regular updates for facilitator and learner guides, worksheets, and presentation slides.

• Conduct class audits to ensure trainers use updated materials.

• Manage training props, files, and specialised equipment (SIMFOX laptops, tablets, handphones).

• Troubleshoot technical issues during lessons and assessments.

Requirements

• Diploma or bachelor's degree in training, education, or related field. 

• TAEPP registered. ACTA/ACLP compulsory. DACE/DDDLP will be an advantage.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in training operations, assessment management, or programme compliance.

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

• Strong leadership and organisational skills with attention to detail.

• Comfortable using LMS & TMS platforms, TPGateway, and learning technology tools to improve training delivery, administration, and reporting.

• Familiarity with POLWEL requirements is an advantage.

• Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage all administrative and logistics matters for all student events and activities.
• Respond to all student-related queries in a timely manner.
• Compile and collate accurately data and statistics for reporting and auditing.
• Provide Faculty/Instructor Support such as faculty/instructor appointment(s), approvals, agreements, payments, and instructor’s requests for classroom support.
• Provide support on timetabling and course administration related tasks.
• Process student reimbursements, keep track of student activities budget and prepare reports.
• Procure logistics such as catering and transportation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with at least 3 years of relevant work experience in student event management, student administration in a higher educational institution preferred.
• Skilled at planning, organizing, multitasking and project management, with a strong customer orientation.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Willing to support occasional evening and weekend events when required.
